Dear First Grade Parents,
The following is the Summer Reading List for incoming second graders for the 2023-2024 school year. There are projects that will go along with the students' required reading and free choice book this summer. Students must read two books and complete an assignment/project for each. The assignment/project choice should be different for the two books. One book is required and the second book is the students choice. Both projects are to be completed and handed in during the first week of school. The required book and suggested books are listed below as well as assignments/project choices to complete for each book.
Required Book:
Mercy Watson to the Rescue By Kate DiCamillo
Suggested Books:
Magic Tree House Series
Henry and Mudge Series
Frog and Toad Series
Amelia Bedelia Series
Assignment/Project Choices:
1. Write a different ending for the book
2. Pretend the book is going to be made into a movie - create a poster to promote the movie and write a brief summary on the back of the poster
3. Make a scrapbook with items and pictures that are important to the life of the main character and to the story
4. Create a book mobile using the five story elements (setting, plot, conflict, resolution,
character(s))
5. Book Timeline - use words and pictures to make a timeline of important events from the book
6. Write a letter to the author - telling the author what you liked about the book, a question you have about the book or author, and suggestions for the next book
Thank you
Mrs. Albanese
Have a great and safe summer!!!
